CMS Finalizes Global Benchmark for Drug Pricing Model
What happened
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued a Final Rule establishing the Global Benchmark for Efficient Drug Pricing Model, a new mandatory Medicare payment model. This model requires manufacturer rebates for certain drugs if their price exceeds an international benchmark. The rule limits applicability to four manufacturers, causing expected Medicare Part B savings to drop from $11.9 billion to $440 million.
