South Africa and Mexico Establish Bi-National Commission to Bolster Trade Ties

South Africa and Mexico established a Bi-National Commission on February 12, 2013, to discuss strengthening bilateral ties. The commission was co-chaired by South Africa's International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and her counterpart in Mexico. The talks took place as both countries were recognized as newly industrialised nations seeking new trade alliances to sustain their economies following a downturn.

The commission serves as a mechanism for constructive engagement at political, bilateral, and multilateral levels. During the talks, the two countries signed several agreements, including an Avoidance of Double Taxation and Fiscal Evasion Agreement, which aimed to ensure free trade flow between South Africa and Mexico.
