Strike Notice Issued Over Education Funding Dispute in Kenya

Vocalize University workers have issued a seven-day strike notice that could begin on October 2, 2026. The union, Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU), states the strike is due to prolonged delays in concluding and implementing the 2025-2029 National Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). KUSU claims that government bodies and university employers have failed to conclude, register, and implement the CBA despite negotiations having started over a year ago.

The dispute centers on the implementation of the CBA, which is intended to address the welfare of staff in the higher education sector of Kenya. The union accuses the government and employers of systemic failure in the process.
