Milwaukee Redevelopment Plan Revised, Data Center Component Dropped

The City Plan Commission in Milwaukee approved revised plans for the redevelopment of a former Walmart store site at 5825 W. Hope Ave. The original proposal included a 19,000-square-foot computer research facility, but this component was removed from the plan in early July. The revised project calls for 200 units of affordable housing, a Milwaukee Public Library branch, and a 108,000-square-foot self-storage facility within the former Walmart building.

The approval of the revised plan follows months of public debate over the site's use. According to reports, the decision to remove the computing research facility reflects resident engagement, though the change comes with a reduction in potential tax revenue for the city.
