FIA introduces technical and financial allowances for struggling power unit manufacturer
What happened
The FIA introduced the Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) system to assist power unit manufacturers whose technology lags behind their rivals. The FIA announced tweaks to the ADUO process, including extra test bench hours for manufacturers struggling to close the performance gap. The allowance increases to 230 hours on the test bench for a power unit that is 10 per cent off the best-performing unit. Furthermore, financial regulations were revised to allow a power unit more than 10 per cent behind to make an $11 million downward adjustment for the reporting period, though this was only for the inaugural season.
