Hydrogen Partnerships Advance Europe's Energy Transition Goals

A partnership focusing on hydrogen for energy transition was announced, noting that global hydrogen demand exceeded 100 million tonnes in 2025 and is increasingly used as an industrial molecule in processes like refining and ammonia production. A potential partnership between Orica and Plug Power was also established to build a green hydrogen ecosystem in Europe. Meanwhile, a technical review of a geothermal-integrated hydrogen production platform found that the likely cost of hydrogen (LCOH) was approximately US$1.75/kg H2 under best-case scenarios, rising to US$2.10/kg H2 under broad deployment. Separately, a study found that the extensive decarbonization of the German glass industry by 2045 is technically feasible, provided it utilizes a combination of electrification, green hydrogen, hybrid solutions, and circularity.

Hydrogen is central to the energy transition, as Europe and the commodity are engaged in partnerships focused on this shift. The viability of hydrogen as a low-carbon fuel source is being assessed across various heavy industries, including aviation and glass manufacturing.
