Proposal to Abolish DHS and Restructure TSA Functions Introduced in Congress

Delia Ramirez, U.S. Representative from Illinois, announced the Reimagining Safety Act in Chicago on Wednesday. The proposal calls for the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection. Under the plan, the Department of Homeland Security would be dismantled, and the functions of the TSA and the Coast Guard would be moved to the Department of Transportation.

The legislation proposes to create a new Cabinet-level department focused on community safety. Ramirez stated that the proposal would inject $150 billion into communities across the country. The plan would fundamentally alter the operational scope of the TSA and the structure of federal security agencies.
