Task Force Targets ACA Enrollment Fraud, Targeting $2.2 Billion Recovery

A task force led by JD Vance is removing approximately 750,000 to 760,000 people from Affordable Care Act health insurance plans. The administration is pursuing this effort to combat widespread fraud in federal health programs, with the cancellations expected to save taxpayers about $2.2 billion. Officials stated that some removed enrollees were ineligible, did not exist, or did not meet income or immigration-status requirements.

The crackdown represents a major administrative effort to verify subsidy eligibility within the ACA marketplace. Additionally, the administrator for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced a six-month moratorium on new ACA insurance brokers, citing fraudulent activity disproportionately connected to brokers.

The administration has detailed its plan to verify enrollment status for the ACA marketplace, and HHS and JD Vance have proposed rule changes regarding subsidy eligibility.
