Tax Investigation Office Established in Gandhinagar Regarding Political Donations

The Gujarat police registered First Information Reports (FIRs) against several Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs) based on complaints from the Income-Tax Department regarding alleged irregularities. The investigation centers on combined donations totaling nearly ₹1,870 crore involving the Bharatiya National Janata Dal, the Swatantrata Abhivyakti Party, and the Garib Kalyan Party. The Income-Tax Department alleges that taxpayers transferred money through banking channels and received donation receipts, seeking deductions under Section 80GGC of the Income Tax Act.

The investigation involves allegations of tax losses ranging from ₹560 crore to ₹124.5 crore across the affected parties. The inquiry began with the Income-Tax Department conducting searches at the offices of the involved parties in Gandhinagar.
