Illinois and Iowa Launch $237M Corridor Project for Davenport-Rock Island Bridge
What happened
Illinois and Iowa transportation departments launched the U.S. 67 Centennial Bridge Corridor Project to evaluate long-term transportation solutions between Davenport and Rock Island. The states agreed to share all costs 50/50 for the recommended $237-million Centennial Bridge, which is planned to replace the current 1940 span around 2036. The Phase I study, which assesses needs and alternatives, is expected to conclude in the summer of 2027.

Why it matters
The project addresses the aging infrastructure of the existing bridge, which requires frequent repairs and is reaching the end of its useful life. The states are committing to a major infrastructure investment, though construction cannot begin until a new I-80 bridge crossing the Mississippi River is completed between 2028 and 2032.
The Mississippi River flows through Illinois, and a bridge currently connects Davenport to Rock Island.
