The administration is reportedly preparing to bypass national procurement laws to secure this third powership, which is expected to provide 300MW of power.

The nation currently rents two vessels from Karpowership: one at the Berbice River (36MW) and one at the Demerara River (60MW). This reliance on expensive rented power generation is placing a significant financial strain on the national budget, which has already seen about US$2 billion invested in the current projects.
