California Community Colleges Prioritize AI for Major Budget Allocation

The California Community Colleges system has identified artificial intelligence as a major budget priority for the upcoming year. This initiative aims to prepare both students and faculty for a changing economy while ensuring equal and secure access to AI across the state. For the 2027-28 budget request, the system is seeking a $100 million grant to be distributed among individual districts for technology needs.

The requested funds are earmarked for critical infrastructure, including software, hardware, cloud services, and cybersecurity. This investment is intended to allow local systems to connect with existing statewide infrastructure, such as the career passport.
