Thai PM Discusses Sustainable Data Center Standards with Google

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul discussed cooperation on environmentally sustainable data center standards with Google in New York on September 23, 2026. The talks focused on Google's existing $1 billion investment commitment in Thailand, which is valued at approximately 36 billion baht. This investment covers a data center in Chonburi and a Google Cloud region in Bangkok. The prime minister also called for long-term cooperation that extends beyond infrastructure into artificial intelligence (AI), digital skills, and Thailand’s transition to a digital economy, with clean energy and water management as key priorities.

The discussions underscore the growing importance of foreign direct investment in Thailand's digital infrastructure sector. The government stated it is ready to facilitate Google’s projects to ensure they proceed smoothly and according to plan. The focus on sustainable standards reflects the increasing pressure on major technology firms regarding their environmental footprint.
