The Diamond Worker Union Gujarat (DWUG) has lodged concerns regarding low wages paid to artisans in rural diamond-polishing units across Saurashtra. The union alleges that many workers are earning less than the government-prescribed minimum wage. The issue is particularly acute in Bhavnagar district, where artisans in Talaja, Mahuva, Palitana, and Rajula recently went on strike. DWUG has submitted a representation to the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) seeking intervention to compel factory owners to revise piece rates in line with inflation.
