Aston University partners with Jesmonite Ltd to develop low-carbon construction materials

Aston University has partnered with Jesmonite Ltd to explore the use of low-carbon materials in Jesmonite's production. The collaboration aims to redevelop Jesmonite materials, potentially adding biochar, to be used more widely in construction as an alternative to cement for surfaces and facades. The project involves researchers from Aston University's Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute and the Department of Civil Engineering.

The partnership applies academic expertise in sustainable construction materials to a commercial product. Jesmonite Ltd stated that the collaboration provides an opportunity to access specialist facilities and research expertise to understand its materials at a molecular level.
