What happened
Rheinmetall Defence Australia and Australian defense startup Breaker signed a teaming agreement with the Australian Army to integrate autonomous systems into the Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle. The system allows a single crew member to command a swarm of up to 100 autonomous systems across air, land, and sea using only the vehicle's standard headset and voice. This capability was demonstrated on an actual Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle.
Why it matters
The integration leverages the Boxer's open systems architecture, allowing novel force multipliers to be added quickly. This capability is intended to enhance crew survivability and mission effectiveness for the Australian Army.
