Congress Considers Bills to Address Forest Resilience and Wildfire Risk

Congress is considering two bipartisan bills focused on long-term forest resilience and land management: The Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA) and the Save Our Sequoias Act. These bills are co-sponsored by Senator Tim Sheehy. They address the issue of increasingly devastating wildfires, which have caused annual U.S. acres burned to rise significantly over the past four decades.

The Fix Our Forests Act aims to accelerate forest management projects on public and tribal lands, such as prescribed fire and restorative thinning. The companion legislation focuses on improving interagency coordination and providing land managers with new tools and resources to manage iconic tree species and plan for reforestation after major fires.
