Philippines Ratifies Voucher Act to Subsidize Private School Tuition

Congress ratified the Basic Education Voucher Assistance Act, which allows qualified Kindergarten to Grade 12 students to enroll in participating private schools through voucher subsidies. The Department of Education announced that over 292,000 Kindergarten and elementary students will benefit from the government tuition assistance. The agency proposed a P4.34-billion budget for the initial implementation of the expanded voucher program in School Year 2027-2028.

The legislation provides subsidies to ease the financial burden of school expenses on families. The program supports private educational institutions by expanding the voucher framework, which is integral to the national strategy for human capital development.
