Rising Ghagra and Rapti Rivers Pose Flood Threat in Uttar Pradesh

Strong winds and heavy downpour caused widespread damage, including the uprooting of trees and electric poles, and inundated roads and villages in the state. The Central Water Commission reported that the Ghagra and Rapti rivers were showing rising trends at several monitoring stations. At Elginbridge, the Ghagra was flowing above its danger level, and the water level in Ayodhya was also above its warning threshold.

The combination of heavy rainfall and rising river levels poses a severe flood threat to low-lying areas, leading to damage to over one thousand houses and standing crops. The situation requires extensive disaster response efforts and impacts regional infrastructure and agricultural supply.

The Central Water Commission is currently monitoring river levels across seven states.
