Davao City Strengthens Safety Ordinance for Public Schools

The city council of Davao City is working to strengthen its local School Safety Ordinance as part of a strategy to improve security in both public and private campuses following recent shooting incidents involving minors in the city. The council is standardizing minimum safety protocols across all 438 public schools in Davao City. These protocols require uniform emergency sirens, signage, and response procedures for fires, earthquakes, and active shooter scenarios.

The initiative aims to ensure that safety protocols are effective while also considering the logistical capacity of each school, particularly those that are smaller. The city is currently calibrating these proposed measures at the committee level to ensure they are implementable across all institutions.
