Coastal Flood Warnings Issued for Richmond and Westmoreland Areas

The National Weather Service issued Coastal Flood Warnings for several counties, including Westmoreland, Richmond, and other affected areas, due to a nor'easter moving into eastern Virginia. The warning, which was in effect through early Saturday morning, called for two to three feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Officials reported that the Windmill Point Flood Gauge had reached 4.04 feet during the morning high tide, with the next high tide expected to reach 4.2 feet.

The warnings are due to the combination of the nor'easter and high tides, which are causing widespread flooding. The conditions are sufficient to close numerous roads and threaten homes and businesses along the waterfront. The agency noted that flooding was extending inland from tidal rivers and bays.
