Confindustria Reports €4 Billion Damage to Local Economy of Emilia-Romagna

Confindustria, the Italian employers’ federation, reported that the total economic damage to the local economy of Emilia-Romagna exceeded €4 billion. This assessment followed the severe earthquakes that struck northern Italy in May 2012, which caused widespread destruction to homes, factories, and warehouses across the region. The Italian government subsequently announced it would allocate €2.5 billion for reconstruction efforts in the affected area. Separately, the Chrysler Foundation announced a donation of $100,000 to the National Italian American Foundation to aid the Emilia-Romagna fund.

The reported damage highlights the severe economic disruption caused by the 2012 seismic events in the region. The government's allocation of funds is intended to support the ongoing recovery and reconstruction efforts in Emilia-Romagna.
