Virginia Bill Targets Maternal and Infant Health with Federal Funding Increase

Tim Kaine is collaborating with Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski on a bill called The Mothers and Newborns Success Act. These programs would target women in rural and underserved communities and integrate work through the CDC, NIH, and Health Resources and Services Administration.

The bill addresses the current maternal mortality rate in the U.S., which is noted to be significantly out of step with peer nations. The proposed funding increase would specifically target the challenges faced by Black, Latino, and tribal communities regarding maternal health outcomes.
