Algeria and Council of the European Union Advance Judicial Cooperation on Crime

Judicial cooperation between Algeria and the European Union is progressing toward a new agreement with Eurojust. This agreement aims to strengthen information sharing and judicial coordination against organized crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking, money laundering, and cybercrime. The Council of the European Union authorized the judicial cooperation agreement on September 22, and the decision was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on September 24. The agreement must now be submitted to the European Parliament for approval before it enters into force.

The forthcoming agreement would establish a more structured legal framework for cooperation between Algerian authorities and their European counterparts. This includes the possibility of deploying joint investigation teams and exchanging data and evidence in international criminal cases of mutual concern. The framework also allows for the exchange of information and personal data between Algerian authorities and Eurojust.
