Herefordshire Council Report Details Problems with Hereford Bypass Scheme

A Herefordshire Council report detailed multiple problems with the first phase of the Hereford bypass scheme. The concerns range from likely overruns beyond the £45 million budgeted for the scheme to delays in preliminary work. Furthermore, the council does not yet control all the land required for the route, which spans between the A49 and just beyond the A465.

The council stated that the scheme is emerging as a 'white elephant' and has already wasted £4 million of taxpayers' money. The report attributes the issues to past political actions, noting that the scheme was cancelled by the Independents for Herefordshire, which included the Greens, when they were in power in 2022.
