DND Community Centre Closure Raises Questions Over Future Defense Spending

A new community centre at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, Alta., which houses daycare and family-resource services for children of Canadian Forces personnel, has been closed down twice since its opening in July 2021. DND spokesperson Kened Sadiku confirmed the centre reopened in late 2023 but had to close again in early 2024 due to additional vulnerabilities discovered during extreme cold, including damage to fire-protection systems. The centre is not expected to reopen until Spring 2028.
