Mansfield Residents Criticize HMO Growth and Planning Oversight

Residents in Mansfield have expressed concern over the influx of new tenants and the conversion of local properties into Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) by landlords seeking high profits. Cynthia, a long-time resident, noted that the street used to be quiet before the change. The owners of 13 Princes Street, which is already a licensed HMO for six tenants, applied for planning permission to house ten people after renovating the three-storey home to include six bedrooms.

The conversion of residential properties into high-density HMOs is driven by landlords aiming to maximize revenue from smaller units. Local residents have accused the city council of overlooking the practice, which they claim is leading to increased anti-social behavior and straining local infrastructure.
