Long Island Projects Receive State Grants for Revitalization and Development

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that several projects across Long Island will receive a financial boost from the state through the New York Places for Learning, Activity, and Youth Socialization program. The state awarded a total of $67.5 million across 89 projects statewide, with the Long Island recipients including Riverhead, which received $2.4 million, and the Village of Hempstead, which received $1.6 million. The funding is intended to help close a budget shortfall for a planned $3.7 million adaptive playground in Riverhead.

The grants support a wide range of local initiatives, including a major Town Square revitalization project in Riverhead. This project aims to create a destination by adding a new hotel, shops, restaurants, a public plaza, and an outdoor amphitheater, which includes access to the Peconic River.
