Denmark commits climate finance to support local adaptation in Uganda
What happened
Denmark is backing local climate adaptation efforts shared across Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. In Uganda, the government is pushing for local communities to lead climate change interventions, arguing that those directly affected are best placed to implement solutions. The Local Climate Adaptive Living Facility (LoCAL+) was established to mobilize financial resources from the private sector and local governments directly to communities.

Why it matters
Climate finance is essential for adaptation, but many developing countries face institutional and technical barriers to accessing funds. By decentralizing climate finance, the LoCAL+ framework strengthens Uganda’s ability to embed resilience into everyday governance structures and mobilize private sector resources.
