DRDO Developing Indigenous SDR Systems for Indian Armed Forces

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is leading the development of indigenous Software Defined Radio (SDR) systems for the Indian Armed Forces. The Indian Air Force expects the next-generation communication system to be complete by the end of the year, offering secured wireless communication across its fighter aircraft and ground stations. Meanwhile, the Indian Navy has already received the DRDO-developed “SDR Tactical” for ship-to-ship, ship-to-shore, and ship-to-air voice, video, and data communication. For the land services, the Indian Army is integrating the indigenous “SDR MANPAC” to equip units with high data rates and Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) capabilities.

The successful development of these indigenous systems secures future government contracts and R&D funding for DRDO. The projects involve major upgrades to the operational readiness of the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, and Indian Navy. The integration of these systems represents a significant move toward indigenization in India's defense sector.
