BioPharma Lung Cancer Drug Fails Primary Trial Goal
What happened
BioPharma announced that its Phase 3 FURVENT trial of firmonertinib did not meet its main goal in patients newly diagnosed with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) driven by an EGFR exon 20 insertion mutation. The trial compared firmonertinib against standard platinum-based chemotherapy. While the higher dose of firmonertinib resulted in a median progression-free survival of 11 months versus 9.5 months for chemotherapy, the difference did not meet the primary endpoint. The drug did, however, cause fewer serious side effects than chemotherapy.
