Why it matters
The successful cultivation of wheat on Easterby Rancho, aided by water from the Fresno Canal and Irrigation Company, attracted Leland Stanford. This success convinced Stanford to build the future Fresno townsite near the land, establishing early agricultural and urban infrastructure in the area.
Farmers and agricultural companies are operating in Fresno County, including fruit growing and business operations in the Central Coast area.
