Aid Failure, Drought Losses Threaten Agricultural Stability in Maharashtra

Rohit Pawar, an NCP(SP) MLA, criticized the Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra administration for the failure to disburse direct financial aid to agricultural laborers and farmers affected by drought across multiple regions of the state. Pawar stated that crop losses across the state exceed Rs 35,900 crore, with losses in Vidarbha alone surpassing Rs 22,400 crore. He warned that if the government does not officially sanction concrete relief measures and financial allocations by October 12, party workers and affected farmers plan to physically block the Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway between October 12 and October 15.

The agricultural sector is facing catastrophic losses due to severe drought conditions, impacting the economic viability of key crops like soybean, cotton, maize, tur, and paddy. The failure to provide timely financial relief raises concerns about the economic stability of the region and the potential for civil disruption.
