Global Leaders Call for International Standards for Advanced AI Development

An international initiative, issued by the office of Finnish President Alexander Stubb, called for global cooperation to ensure artificial intelligence remains under human direction, oversight, and control. The declaration, issued by 20 countries and the European Union, urged the technology industry and governments to take immediate action. The call included exploring the establishment of an international body capable of setting and verifying common standards for AI.

The initiative was welcomed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who urged member states to build on existing international mechanisms. The call emphasizes that industry leaders and governments must coordinate common standards to manage the risks posed by rapidly advancing AI.
