Infrastructure Investment Transforms Somali Region Capital, Jigjiga
What happened
The capital of Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State, Jigjiga, has undergone a striking transformation supported by substantial public infrastructure investment. In February 2025, the Ethiopian federal government and the Somali Regional State administration announced a 30-kilometre urban corridor program, with an initial phase covering 10 kilometres. This was followed by the inauguration of a 7.3-kilometre bypass road in May 2026.
