What happened
Fertilizer application rates vary widely between Nigeria, Tanzania, and Zambia. While Nigeria has fertilizer production capacity, the country's current national consumption averages around 18.6 kilograms per hectare, falling short of the 50 kg/ha benchmark set by the 2006 Abuja Declaration. Data from the International Fertiliser Development Centre shows that in 2020, application rates were 79 kg/ha in Zambia and 14.4 kg/ha in Tanzania.
