What happened
Findings from an IDC White Paper, sponsored by Schneider Electric, were presented at the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition organized by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. The study surveyed 700 medium-voltage infrastructure decision-makers across seven regions and four sectors. The research found that 14% of organizations in the Middle East have begun transitioning to SF₆-free equipment, with 32% expecting to start within two years. Almost all of the remainder expect to transition within five years, and 99% consider SF₆ regulation likely within that period.

Why it matters
The transition to SF₆-free equipment is driven by anticipated regulation in the Middle East. While technical readiness, supply chain availability, and cost are cited as barriers to adoption, 92% of respondents consider end-of-life SF₆ management a major or moderate cost factor, which narrows the perceived cost gap when included in procurement decisions.
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority organized the exhibition to showcase water innovations, and the authority is noted for powering Dubai's rise and sharing its infrastructure model globally.
