Local media reported that flights from Iran to Baghdad and Muscat will be cancelled as of midnight, as Baghdad and Muscat airports will no longer accept Iranian flights. This follows warnings from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that Iranian airlines would be shut out of international operations starting September 23, citing potential secondary sanctions on foreign service providers. However, a spokesperson for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization stated that Iranian airlines are continuing international flights according to schedule.

The expanded US sanctions target the Iranian aviation sector, threatening foreign organizations that work with Iranian airlines. The resulting ban on flights to Baghdad and Muscat directly affects the operational capacity of those airports.
