Google Partners with Terradot on Megaton-Scale Climate Project in Brazil
What happened
Google announced a collaboration with Terradot on a megaton-scale climate project located in Southern Brazil. The initiative focuses on pairing methane avoidance in rice farming with permanent carbon dioxide removal (CDR). Under the agreement, Google will purchase 1 million tonnes of near-term methane impact by 2030 and 1 million tonnes of carbon removal impact by 2040.

Why it matters
This project represents the largest carbon removal purchase for Google to date and is the largest ever undertaken of its kind. The initiative involves helping rice farmers across more than 200,000 hectares in Rio Grande do Sul adopt Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) to reduce methane emissions.
