Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Reviews Bill for Legal Recognition of Sikh Marriages

A bill proposing full legal recognition and protection for Sikh marriages in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is currently under review. The process involves lawmakers, government officials, and representatives of the Sikh community in consultations held in Peshawar. Gurpal Singh, who serves as a member of the provincial assembly and vice chairperson of the Parliamentary Caucus on Minorities, confirmed the review process.

The proposed law seeks to establish a clear legal framework for Sikh marriages, including the Anand Kaaraj ceremony and compulsory registration. After vetting by the law department, the bill will move to the Cabinet Committee on Legislation, followed by the provincial cabinet, before being presented to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly for consideration.
