HAL Tests Prototype Twin-Engine UH-M Helicopter for Indian Navy and Coast Guard

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is preparing to test the prototype of the Utility Helicopter-Marine (UH-M) in around November. The twin-engine helicopter is based on the ALH-Dhruv platform and was developed in response to a Ministry of Defence Request for Information issued last year. This RFI sought 76 naval utility helicopters, comprising 51 for the Indian Navy and 25 for the Indian Coast Guard.

The UH-M was specifically designed around the requirements of ship-based aviation, unlike conventional utility helicopters. The prototype incorporates features such as folding rotor blades, increased engine capacity, and improved flight-control capabilities. The current Shakti engine of the Dhruv has been modified to deliver high output necessary for operations from warships in adverse conditions.
