Honeywell Engine Supply Delays Impact HTT-40 Trainer Deliveries to Indian Air Force
What happened
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited handed over the first three HTT-40 basic trainers and two Tejas Mk.1 twin-seat trainers to the Indian Air Force. However, planned deliveries of 12 HTT-40 trainers in FY 2025–26 did not occur due to supply-chain constraints affecting Honeywell TPE331-12B turboprop engines. The Indian Air Force has ordered 70 HTT-40 trainers, valued at $832 million.

Why it matters
The delay demonstrates how a single component supplier can affect the readiness of defense platforms. The HTT-40, which is Indian in design and assembly but uses an American engine, is critical for training pilots who will eventually crew fighter jets. HAL plans to increase production to around 20 aircraft per year, aiming to complete deliveries in four to five years.
Tejas Mk1A deliveries are already contingent on GE Aerospace engine supply and have been impacted by Honeywell supply chain issues.
