Category 5 Hurricane Polo Impacts Southwestern Mexico Coastline

Hurricane Polo has intensified into a Category 5 storm, one of the most powerful Pacific cyclones in decades. The system is currently located approximately 215 miles southwest of Mexico and is nearly stationary off the western coast of the country. Sustained winds are reported at 180 mph, with a minimum central pressure of 892 mb. A high-pressure ridge is expected to steer the storm generally west-northwestward over the next several days.

The storm is producing heavy rainfall that is impacting coastal areas of southwestern Mexico. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for portions of southwestern Mexico due to the life-threatening flooding and mudslides in areas with steep terrain. The storm's path and intensity remain highly dependent on forecast updates.

Storms are causing itinerary changes and affecting port operations in the Cabo San Lucas and Los Angeles area.
