What happened

Well supportedReported by 10 independent outlets

Drone attacks have targeted Saudi oil infrastructure, with reports indicating the launches originated from Iraqi territory. The attacks were attributed to Iran-affiliated militias. A major oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia sustained significant damage from the drone strikes, which occurred while the country was already dealing with the aftermath of the ongoing U.S. war with Iran.

Why it matters

Some supportBrind's analysis of the reports

The attacks challenge the sovereignty of Iraq by allowing substate forces to operate from its soil. The pipeline, which is crucial for Saudi oil exports, is currently recovering but full capacity restoration could take up to six weeks. The incident adds to the heightened tensions in the region affecting global oil prices.

The attacks occur amid larger regional tensions involving Iran, the U.S., and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
