$12 Million Federal Funding Allocated for Oregon Habitat Restoration

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is distributing $12 million in federal funds to the State of Oregon through its Community-based Restoration Program. These funds are designated for habitat restoration and coastal resilience projects, including $6.1 million for the Sandy River Basin and $5.9 million for coho salmon across four Oregon Coast watersheds. Jeff Merkley praised the funding, noting that native fish support the vitality of local economies.

The federal investment is intended to recover and sustain nation’s fisheries by ensuring native fish have access to high-quality habitat. The allocation of funds directly supports habitat restoration in the Pacific Northwest, which is critical for the health of native fish populations.

The federal government is currently investing in salmon conservation projects, complementing recovery efforts supported by the Government of Canada and British Columbia in the Pacific Northwest.
