What happened
A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued against a former university dean, Jonathan Black-Branch, who is facing extradition in France after being arrested overseas. The University of Manitoba accused Black-Branch of misspending more than $600,000 on expenses such as travel, meals, and education while he was the law dean. A default judgment in May 2025 ordered him to repay the university nearly $680,000, plus associated costs and three per cent annual interest.
