ICAC Inquiry into Strathfield Corruption Nears Conclusion

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is holding public hearings for Operation Rosny, which entered its ninth week of testimony. During the proceedings, Sharangan Maheswaran, a former councillor, testified about alleged corruption. Maheswaran accused Jean Nassif of lying to the ICAC and detailed how Nassif wanted to damage the career of former police minister David Elliott. Maheswaran also stated that he received payments from Toplace, estimating the total at $1.4 million between 2020 and 2023.

The inquiry focuses on alleged illicit political donations and payments made to a firm while a council member was in office. Maheswaran stated that the alleged payments were expected as part of a business engagement. Jeremy Greenwood reportedly told Maheswaran that the 'boss' referenced in the proceedings likely referred to Charles Perrottet.
