Spanish Judge Summons Daughters of Former President for Plus Ultra Investigation

Judge José Luis Calama of the Spanish National Court summoned Laura and Alba Rodríguez Espinosa to appear on November 30 as part of the Plus Ultra case investigation. The summons followed a request from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, which required the National Office of Fraud Investigation to prepare a fiscal and tax report on José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and his daughters covering 2020 to 2025. The investigation examines indications that the daughters might have received commissions related to a 53-million-euro public bailout granted by SEPI to an airline in 2021.

The investigation involves scrutiny of the financial activities of the daughters, who co-own What the Fav. Reports indicate that What the Fav received funds from several entities under investigation, including 561,440 euros from Inteligencia Prospectiva and 239,755 euros from Análisis Relevante. The Economic and Financial Crime Unit asserts that What the Fav generates invoices and redistributes funds rather than engaging in standard business activities.

The investigation is being conducted by a judge in Spain's highest criminal court.
