New information from the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association shows that women in Virginia are having babies later in life. Mothers aged 35 to 39 now account for 20% of hospital births, an increase from 16% in 2017. Additionally, women aged 40 to 49 account for 5% of hospital births, and nearly six in ten hospital births in the first half of 2026 were to mothers aged 30 or older.
