What happened
The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has approved the participation of eligible Kenyan investors in the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals through Global Depository Receipts (GDRs). The IPO opened on September 14 and is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026. The approval was granted for a Short Form Prospectus submitted by Renaissance Capital (Kenya) Limited, which is working with Renaissance Capital Africa, licensed in Nigeria.

Why it matters
The approval allows Kenyan investors to participate in the Nigerian-based refinery’s IPO through GDRs, which are negotiable certificates representing shares in a foreign company. The proposed listing of the GDRs on the Nairobi Securities Exchange is still subject to relevant approvals from Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission.
